THOMSON CCBN PURCHASES 27 MARANTZ
PMD570 UNITS TO ASSURE AUDIO FOR CRITICAL WEBCASTS IS ALWAYS ON THE
MARK
— Intuitive operational controls allow webcaster Thomson CCBN
to preset the
Marantz PMD570 to be ready to roll as soon as it arrives at the site
—
ITASCA, IL, March 15, 2005 — Thomson CCBN,
a leading global provider of integrated information solutions to business
and professional clients including major financial corporations, has
purchased 27 Marantz Professional PMD570 pro-installation solid state
recorders. The PMD570 systems are in use as the primary audio recording
and back-up systems for complex streaming web events, such as shareholder
meetings and product launches, that Thomson CCBN hosts in over 46 countries
each year. The 27 Marantz Professional PMD570 flash-based recorders
were sold by Dale Pro Audio.
“The PMD570 is the greatest single piece of technology
that we could have purchased,” says Jon Ashner, Director of On-site
Webcasting for Thomson CCBN. “We do thousands of streaming webcasts
a year and we always need a means of recording and archiving the audio,
particularly if there was a failure in the webcasting process in which
we would need to get the audio immediately back up online. With the
PMD570, we can take the file from the unit, send it to the web server
and have the problem resolved in minutes.”
The PMD570 has a wealth of features, including recording
directly to Compact Flash cards, RS-232C control, 16-48 kHz sample rate
selections, MP3, MP2, WAV and BWF format compatibility and easy one-touch
recording. According to Ashner, the Marantz Professional PMD570’s
intuitive operational controls allow him and his staff to pre-configure
each unit for each specific webcasting project. “There are presets
that we can configure as we need them and we can ship them ready to
roll,” he explains. “So that when the unit reaches the site,
all that has to be done is to hit record or play. The controls function
just like a tape recorder -- Marantz’s designers took an elementary
function and kept it elementary in a very advanced and sophisticated
product. And thanks to the flash memory, the recording time is virtually
unlimited. The PMD570 is a great tool for the Information Age.”
Joe Prout, Sales Representative for Dale Professional
Audio, notes that Thompson CCBN had previously relied on DAT decks for
back-up and archiving. As linear media continue to decline, however,
Prout notes, “Jon and I had numerous discussions about how they
could do this going forward and we decided that the PMD570 rackmount
flash-card recorder/player was the perfect solution for their application.”
