FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
ENGINEER JAMES “PUGSLEY” McDERMOTT CHOOSES
AUDIO-TECHNICA FOR POP ARTIST HILARY DUFF
117th AES CONVENTION, SAN FRANCISCO, CA, October 28, 2004 —
Hilary Duff is currently out on the road in support of her latest self-titled
album Hilary Duff, with a wide selection of Audio-Technica hard-wired
and wireless microphones. Monitor engineer James “Pugsley”
McDermott, who has worked with such diverse acts as Saliva and O-Town,
was responsible for selecting Audio-Technica as the microphone to help
capture this pop idol’s unique sound. Duff rose to fame after
the enormously successful Disney Channel/ABC Kids show Lizzie McGuire,
which she used as a stepping stone to launch her careers as a pop singer
and film actress.
“I chose the Audio-Technica Artist Elite® 5000
and 4000 UHF Series Wireless because of the stability of the system,
and the clarity,” stated Pugsley. “For Hilary, I am using
A-T’s 5000 Series Wireless with AEW-T6100 hypercardioid dynamic
microphone/transmitter, which is really well-suited for her voice because
of the frequency response and polar pattern. Hilary is using in-ear
monitoring, and what I really like about the A-T system is the dual-band
compander circuitry which compresses and expands low and high frequency
audio signals separately, thereby maximizing the audio quality. There
is no coloration like you get with other systems. I’m also using
five channels of A-T’s 4000 Series Wireless on guitarist Ty Stevens’
electric and acoustic guitars, as well as for bass player Kurt Morgan.”
In addition, a broad range of Audio-Technica hard-wired
microphones are being employed, including: AE6100 hypercardioid dynamic
microphones for all background vocalists; AT4050’s on guitars
cabinets; ATM25 on bass guitar; ATM23HE’s on drummer Shauney Baby’s
snare and rack toms; AT4033 on overheads; AE5100’s on hi-hat and
ride cymbal; and ATM25 on kick drum.
Pugsley comments on the flawless performances using A-T
night-after-night, “With the 5000 Series, we have had zero drop
outs on the 36 dates we’ve just completed. These wireless systems
have been dropped, been abused, and they just keep going. We’re
leaving to go to Japan, Australia, and Hawaii and I’m glad I have
A-T onboard.”
