AUDIO-TECHNICA ARTIST ELITE® WIRELESS SYSTEMS IN
PERFECT HARMONY WITH NATIONAL QUARTET CONVENTION
— Audio-Technica Artist Elite® 5000 Series Wireless Systems
assure a
seamless show with exceptional RF performance and reliability —
WINTER NAMM SESSION, ANAHEIM, CA, January 20, 2005 — The
National Quartet Convention, which took place at the Kentucky Fairgrounds’
Freedom Hall, in Louisville, September 13-18, 2004, showcased the remarkable
performance and endurance characteristics of Audio-Technica microphones.
The six-day event saw 120 vocal groups singing traditional Southern
Gospel harmony before 20,000 attendees, with absolutely flawless performance
by the A-T microphones.
The convention performances used 14 channels of the A-T
Artist Elite® 5000 Series Wireless System, along with the ATW-A49
antennas and the AEW-DA660 antenna distribution system. A dozen AEW-T5400
and eight AEW-T3300 transmitters were employed, as well as an AEW-T6100
for the emcee. In addition, wireless control was enhanced by A-T’s
proprietary AEWCI software running on a Macintosh® computer. A-T
wired microphones that also contributed to a successful convention included
the ES915/ML podium microphone, AE5100 on drum overheads, AE3000 for
toms, AE5100 on piano, AE2500 dual-capsule cardioid microphone on kick
drum, ATM63HE for snare, AE6100 on background vocals, and ATM35 on horns.
Several of the performers also brought their own AT3035 microphones,
used as the audio centerpiece for traditional group singing.
“The A-T stuff rocks!” exclaimed Keith Skaggs,
Stage Manager for the performances in Freedom Hall. “No other
wireless microphone in the five years I’ve done this convention
has ever had longer battery life. That alone made this the easiest of
the shows I’ve done, as far as microphones go. One year I spent
more time on stage than the artists did, changing batteries constantly.
And the A-T wireless systems were great technical performers, too. I’ve
done shows where the soundcheck was fine, but then after five o’clock
the little local radio stations fired up and the frequencies were so
close together that it made a mess of it. Plus the hall is within a
mile of the airport, with all the frequency issues that come with that.
But the A-T wireless systems were complete champs — no frequency
problems at all. In fact, there was only one issue with the systems
during the entire week, and the Audio-Technica technician on the site
ran down from the booth and took care of it immediately. Great microphone
systems!”
Rob Snyder, the System Designer and FOH Engineer for the
performances, agreed. “The A-T microphones have a great natural
sound and clarity,” he noted. “In this style of music, the
intelligibility of the vocals, including spoken word parts of the songs,
is very important to the artists and their audience. The A-T microphones
were both musical and highly intelligible, so they covered all the bases.”
On the instruments, the A-T mics were just as exceptional. “Each
microphone complemented each instrument perfectly,” Snyder stated.
“For instance, the AE2500 made the kick drum sound huge.”
The convention benefited from an extremely high-end PA system, including
speaker components from Meyer, a BSS Soundweb for system EQ and control,
and a Midas Heritage 3000 FOH console. Snyder concluded, “The
A-T microphones were every bit as top-of-the-line as every other component
in the system. Very little EQ was used. They were great-sounding from
the minute we opened them up.”
