NATHANIEL KUNKEL USES AUDIO-TECHNICA MICS
TO CAPTURE THE EMMY-WINNING SOUND OF
A&E IN CONCERT: STING: SACRED LOVE
STOW, OH, September 30, 2004 — Producer/engineer/mixer
Nathaniel Kunkel is one of the rare audio professionals who enjoy as
stellar a reputation as the artists with whom they collaborate. This
is particularly notable considering Kunkel’s impressive list of
credits, including work with legends Crosby and Nash, James Taylor,
Elton John, Lyle Lovett, Linda Ronstadt, and also recently Sting for
A&E in Concert: Sting: Sacred Love. This special broadcast earned
Sound Mixer Kunkel, along with Sound Mixer Simon Osborne and Audio Mixer
Don Worsham, a coveted Emmy for Outstanding Sound Mixing for a Variety
or Music Series or Special at the 56th Emmy Awards, held September 12
and aired September 19. Among the many that Kunkel thanks for helping
him to attain this honor is Audio-Technica, the leading supplier of
wired and wireless microphone solutions for high-profile broadcast events.
A&E in Concert: Sting: Sacred Love featured Audio-Technica’s
renowned AT4055 on vocals, AT4049a for ambience, AT4050 on acoustic
piano, and ATM35 for percussion. Kunkel comments, “I have been
using more Audio-Technica microphones than any other on my last several
projects, and I have started to count on them like a trusted friend.
The AT4055 especially — it is without a doubt my favorite live
vocal mic.” He adds, “The other thing about A-T is that
they never sit idle. Each new product of theirs that I try is stunning.
On top of it all, they make some of the coolest mic mounting and positioning
hardware I have ever used. I love their stuff.”
This incredible musical performance has also become a
DVD release from Sting, Inside the Songs of Sacred Love. All music for
the A&E special and associated DVD was recorded and mixed in surround
sound by Kunkel employing his unique Studio Without Walls modular recording
system.
