GENELEC HOME THEATER SOUND SYSTEMS OFFERS TWO COMPLETE SYSTEMS FOR ACCURATE
SURROUND SOUND ENVIRONMENTS
CEDIA EXPO, INDIANAPOLIS, IN, September 9, 2005 —Genelec,
Inc., U.S. distributor of Genelec Home Theater Sound Systems, is expanding
its line of home theater products with two complete surround sound solutions.
Designed to provide a musical, yet high impact listening experience,
both systems illustrate Genelec’s ongoing commitment to delivering
innovative sound systems to high-end Home Theater and Consumer Audio
enthusiasts.
How It Began and the Benefits of Being “Active”
Genelec began developing active monitors over 20 years ago for the Professional
Audio and Broadcast industries and is considered today the premier manufacturer
of active recording studio monitors. It’s no wonder why Genelec
Active Monitors have become the standard for leading recording studios
and Hollywood film scoring stages. As the high-end consumer audio market
evolved, Genelec Active Studio Monitors found their way into home theater
and surround sound installations. Genelec was then asked by consumers
and custom installers to develop specific products for the Home Theater
market. This R & D effort resulted in the Home Theater Sound Systems
— an Active Home Theater Sound System line with the ability to
handle extremely high SPLs with wide dynamic range necessary to meet
the needs of today’s Home Theater audiophile. From a systems installation
perspective, an integrated amplifier/loudspeaker (Active) is efficient
and provides a system with perfectly matched components and minimum
wiring. From a systems integration standpoint, all crossovers are electronic
and placed ahead of the power amps. The benefit is that each driver
in every Genelec Home Theater Sound System has its own integral amplifier
as well as protection circuitry. In addition, built-in equalization
controls help match the loudspeakers response characteristics of the
room. The result is that the sound that was originally mixed in the
recording studio, film dubbing stage or scoring stage (probably on Genelec
Active Monitors) transfers perfectly to the home theater environment.
Genelec Home Theater Sound Systems Offers Two
Active Media Room Solutions
The first system was designed for the intimate home theater/media room,
bedroom or any surround sound environment measuring up to 2500 cubic
feet (H x W x D). The system consists of five Genelec HT205 two way,
bi-amplified active monitors, and one Genelec HTS3B Series Active Subwoofer.
At the heart of the system is Genelec’s HTS3B Active Home Theater
Subwoofer that is equipped with one active magnetically shielded 10"
driver, mounted on the front side of a compact cabinet, and two 10"
passive radiators, one on each side of the cabinet. The HTS3B features
a frequency response of 18 Hz to 120 Hz, and has a maximum SPL of 114
dB. The 200 Watt amplifier unit is integrated into the HTS3B subwoofer
cabinet, which measures a compact 17" x 14.5" x 15.75".
The system also includes five of Genelec’s HT205 two way, bi-amplified
active monitors which are magnetically shielded speakers designed to
be used where space is at a premium. The HT205 is a completely self-powered
speaker with an internal electronic crossover, room response equalizers
and two 40 Watt amplifiers. The monitor also features a 5" woofer
and a 3/4" metal dome tweeter loaded with Genelec’s DCW™
(Directivity Control Waveguide™ Technology). Each speaker is EM
shielded for additional protection when used in close proximity to video
monitors. The HT205 is available in an innovative aluminum cabinet in
White, Silver or matte Black finish.
The larger system is designed for a dedicated home theater
or large multipurpose family room measuring up to 4000 cubic feet (H
x W x D). The system consists of five Genelec HT208B two way, bi-amplified
active monitors, and one Genelec HTS4B Series Active Subwoofer. The
five Genelec HT208B Active Loudspeakers are magnetically shielded and
employ an 8" woofer and 1" metal dome tweeter loaded with
Genelec’s DCW. The HT208B includes an integrated electronic crossover,
two 120 Watt amplifiers, room response equalizers and RCA, as well as
balanced XLR inputs. Additionally, the Genelec HT208B features a Signal
Sensing Auto-On/Off Circuit and a 12V/contact closure strip. The HT208B
is available in Natural Birch, Light Cherry and Dark Cherry finishes.
At the core of the system is Genelec’s HTS4B Active Home Theater
Subwoofer HTS4B. This powerful sub shares the same design principles
as the HTS3B, but is equipped with a 12" driver and radiators,
along with a 400 Watt amplifier unit integrated into the subwoofer.
The HTS4B has a frequency response of 18 Hz to 120 Hz, a maximum SPL
of 118 dB, and measures a compact 20.25" x 18.25" x 18.25".
Both new Genelec Home Theater Sound Systems packages are

Genelec, the pioneer in Active Monitoring technology,
is celebrating over 25 years of designing and manufacturing active loudspeakers
for true and accurate sound reproduction. Genelec is credited with promoting
the concept of active transducer technology, which many manufacturers
are just now incorporating into their products. Since its inception
in 1978, Genelec has concentrated its efforts and resources into creating
active monitors with unparalleled sonic integrity. The result is an
active Home Theater speaker system that has earned global acclaim for
its accurate imaging, extremely high acoustic output from a very small
enclosure, and true high-fidelity with low distortion and deep, rich
bass.
