GENELEC HOME THEATER SOUND SYSTEMS
DISPLAYS THE DI8A ACTIVE BALANCER
CEDIA EXPO, INDIANAPOLIS, IN, September 10, 2004 — The
perfect interface between unbalanced single source outputs and Genelec’s
Home Theater Sound Systems, the Genelec DI8A Active Balancer converts
an unbalanced line signal to a balanced line signal, minimizing its
susceptibility to electronic interference and maximizing its sonic performance.
The DI8A’s compact rack-mount design allows it to
be installed in a standard equipment rack or on a shelf very near to
the signal source, such as a Surround Sound Processor. This ensures
that unbalanced lines from the source to the DI8A are as short as possible
to minimize noise at the beginning of the chain. From this point, the
longer cable runs from the DI8A to the speakers are made with balanced
cables and XLR connectors to further reduce the introduction of additional
noise.
Equipped with eight independent signal channels, the DI8A
Active Balancer includes a channel with duplicate outputs to facilitate
the connection of twin subwoofers to larger systems. For even greater
audio integrity, all channels feature gold-plated RCA input connectors
and high-quality XLR output connectors.
To provide easy integration within remote-controlled equipment
setups, the DI8A includes remote power On/Standby switching capability
via a 12V DC trigger or switch/relay which can be connected to the remote
control inputs on the back of the unit. The DI8A is also equipped with
a muting circuit to reduce noise caused by switching the unit on and
off. Gain adjustment switches allow the gain of each channel to be increased
by +6 dB if the output level of the decoder or other signal source is
insufficient. A cover for these switches prevents them from being triggered
accidentally. Two rack ears are included for easy installation into
a standard 19" equipment rack.
The DI8A features a Frequency Response of 20 Hz –
60 kHz (±0.5 dB) and 20 Hz – 120 kHz (±1.5 dB),
while offering a dynamic range of 118 dB. Noise is < -100 dBu with
THD + Noise of <0.002% (@ 20 Hz – 20 kHz, 0 dBu). The Genelec
DI8A can be used with optional rack-mount ears or as a stand alone unit.

Genelec, the pioneer in Active Monitoring technology, is celebrating
over 25 years of designing and manufacturing active loudspeakers for
true and accurate sound reproduction. Genelec is credited with promoting
the concept of active transducer technology, which many manufacturers
are just now incorporating into their products. Since its inception
in 1978, Genelec has concentrated its efforts and resources into creating
active monitors with unparalleled sonic integrity. The result is an
active Home Theater speaker system that has earned global acclaim for
its accurate imaging, extremely high acoustic output from a very small
enclosure, and true high-fidelity with low distortion and deep, rich
bass.
