MIRROR IMAGE RECORDERS FINDS A PERFECT MATCH FOR NEW MIX ROOM: GENELEC
1031A & 1035B MONITORS & 7070A LSE™ SERIES SUB
— Recent equipment upgrades and renovation to facility designed
by Fran Manzella
is specified to the requirements of hit R&B/Hip-Hop mixing star
Duro,
including Genelec 1031A and 1035B monitors and 7070A sub —
117th AES CONVENTION, SAN FRANCISCO, CA, October 28, 2004 —
Mirror Image Recorders recently completed a full renovation of its Studio
B, which is now the mix room for long-time client Duro. It was Duro,
producer and mixer of hit tracks for artists including Fabolous, who
specified Genelec’s dual 15" tri-amp 1035B’s as the
primary monitoring system, and Genelec 1031A’s for near-field
and surround monitoring. When studio Co-Owners Mike Hogan and Tommy
Uzzo heard the results, they realized that the room and Genelec were
a match made in audio heaven.
“Duro simply loves the Genelecs,” confirms
Hogan, whose partner Uzzo has mixed many outstanding records as well,
including tracks for Redman, Gloria Estefan, Celine Dion and Erick Sermon.
“What amazed us was how incredibly well the 1035’s sounded
when we turned them on for the first time in the room. The acoustic
signature of the speakers in that studio was practically dead on, requiring
very little tweaking. It was a match made in heaven — it was as
though those speakers and that room were made for each other. The accuracy
that we can now achieve in that room is incredible.” Furthermore,
Hogan adds, Duro’s work schedule is virtually non-stop, especially
considering he has his own label, Desert Storm Records. “Duro
is able to keep up the pace in part because the Genelecs fit the room
so well sonically. There’s no listening fatigue.”
That accuracy extends to the implementation of Genelec
1031A monitors and 7070A subwoofer set up to act as both a near-field
stereo and a surround array. “This studio is at the cutting edge,”
notes Hogan. He points out that this is the first high-end, purpose-built
mix room in New York to have the new Digidesign ICON work surface, and
that Mirror Image’s other location, on West 42nd Street, carries
the legacy of being the original location for both the legendary Chelsea
Sound and The Hit Factory. “A studio like this needs to regard
every piece of gear as critical, particularly the monitoring. The Genelec
speakers are not only what Duro wanted but also perfect for the room’s
design and acoustics. A perfect fit.”
Bruce Bartone, Genelec’s National Sales Manager,
remarks, “They started with a great room, very tight and quiet.
I was impressed with the attention to detail in front wall design and
construction, which helps account for how neutral and open the 1035B’s
sound. The room as a package is a very powerful mixing environment.”
