GENELEC HITS A HOME RUN WITH NEW 8030A TRIPLE PLAY™
FULL-RANGE STEREO MONITORING SYSTEM

— Genelec redefines the game with a compact, cost effective full-range
stereo monitoring system perfect for broadcast, recording, or postproduction studios —

117th AES CONVENTION, SAN FRANCISCO, CA, October 28, 2004 — Genelec, the world’s longstanding leader in active monitoring systems, has created a compact, full-range stereo monitoring solution specifically designed to meet the needs of the project, recording, multimedia, and postproduction studio environments. The 8030A Triple Play™ full-range stereo monitoring system consists of two Genelec 8030A two way, bi-amplified active MDE™ monitors plus Genelec’s 7050A LSE™ active subwoofer. The system is able to deliver smooth, clean, wideband sound with performance that rivals much larger setups.

The 7050A subwoofer is specifically engineered to complement the 8030A active monitor. When combined, they deliver a smoothness of frequency response comparable to larger Genelec monitors, while offering great flexibility of location. The 8030A monitors are efficiently sized for convenient placement on a desktop as part of a multimedia/workstation audio system, and visually appear remarkably unobtrusive in a typical control room or project studio. The 7050A, when appropriately placed, can overcome many of the low-frequency problems associated with freestanding full-range speakers in small rooms. This three-piece system has in-room flat frequency response — 38 Hz to 20 kHz (+/-3 dB) — and each component features an integrated active balanced crossover, driver protection circuit, and dedicated power amplifier. The Genelec Triple Play can produce peak acoustic levels of over 110 dB SPL @ 1 meter and has suggested retail price of $1999.00 for the complete system.

The Triple Play system includes two 8030A two way, bi-amplified active monitors from Genelec’s revolutionary 8000 MDE (Minimum Diffraction Enclosure™) Series, which takes a new approach to enclosure design, driver technology, and active electronics. In order to improve frequency and power responses, Genelec has designed a highly innovative enclosure, featuring rounded edges and gently curved front and sides. In addition to unsurpassed frequency response, the minimized cabinet edge diffraction provides superb imaging qualities. The 8030A utilizes an entirely aluminum MDE design with integrated Advanced Directivity Control Waveguide™ (DCW™), yielding large internal volumes with outstanding mechanical strength. Also included with each 8030A monitor is the unique Genelec Iso-Pod™ (Isolation Positioner/Decoupler™). The Iso-Pod is a clever mounting stand that allows for monitoring in either vertical or horizontal orientation. It enables the end user to accurately aim the acoustic axis of the monitor to the listener, as well as mechanically decouple it from the surface on which it rests.

The 8030A is a compact close-field system featuring a high degree of accuracy and exceptionally wide dynamic range. The incorporated DCW technology provides excellent stereo imaging and frequency balance even in difficult acoustic environments. Powered by a pair of precisely crafted 40 Watt amplifiers, the Genelec 8030A monitors offer a wide frequency response of 58 Hz to 20 kHz (+/-2 dB) from a 5" woofer and 3/4" hard-domed tweeter. In addition to extremely low harmonic distortion, the 8030A has a front-mounted volume control, and rear panel bass and treble tilt room response controls. The Genelec 8030A active monitors measure a compact 11 1/4" H x 7" W x 7 1/16" D (height with Iso-Pod: 11 13/16"), and are housed in a die-cast aluminum enclosure, featuring rugged construction while also providing massive heat dissipation capability and excellent shielding against RF interference. Each speaker is also EM shielded for additional protection when used in close proximity to video monitors.

Designed to complement the 8030A, Genelec’s critically acclaimed 7050A LSE Series Active Subwoofer employs the company’s proprietary Laminar Spiral Enclosure™ (LSE) technology. The 7050A’s cabinet is made of sheet metal rolled into a spiral and clamped between thick MDF side panels. The spiral forms a seamless, gently curving tube port with excellent laminar flow characteristics and minimal turbulence noise. The 7050A features a single 8" proprietary driver with 70 Watt power amplifier, a frequency response of 38 Hz – 85 Hz +/-3 dB, and has the ability to deliver SPLs of 103 dB @ 1 meter with extremely low distortion.

All monitors in the Triple Play system also comprise extensive driver protection. The protection circuitry detects signals that are above the driver’s safe limits, preventing damage. This makes the Triple Play system immune to being overdriven and, just as important, to spurious signals that synthesizers, sequencers, and such multimedia sources as sound cards often produce.

Genelec, the pioneer in Active Monitoring technology, was founded in 1978 and has concentrated its efforts and resources into the design and manufacturing of active monitoring loudspeakers with unparalleled sonic accuracy. Genelec has been credited with promoting the concept of active monitors, a trend in technology that some manufacturers are just now incorporating into their products. Genelec has a complete line of active main, mid-field, and near-field monitors for application in the postproduction, project studio, broadcast, TV, and CD mastering markets.
