XTA GEAR KEEPS THE SOUND LIVE
& HOT AT
THE NEW ORLEANS JAZZ & HERITAGE FESTIVAL
— 8 days and 18 stages of performances, with XTA products and
personnel
helping to assure top-tier sonics at this year’s edition of a
classic American music fest —
FARMINGDALE, NY, July 3, 2003 — The annual
New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival, held April 24 through May
4 this year, was a rousing success once again, with sound enhancement
and loudspeaker management provided by XTA. One dozen SR companies overall
employed numerous pieces of XTA technology, featuring over 24 DP226
Speaker Management Systems and 12 SIDD DP324 Dual-Channel Digital Signal
Processors, as well as two dozen Series 2 Processors. In addition, high-quality
analog processing from XTA was utilized, including the GQ600 Dual Channel
Equalizer and DS800 Mic/Line Splitter. The flawless onsite audio direction
was courtesy of John “Klondike” Koehler, who was supported
by XTA personnel throughout the festival. Thanks to this synergy of
expertise, artists including Lucinda Williams, Emerson Chapman &
the Chapman Family, and The Hackberry Ramblers gave performances that
were as sonically outstanding as they were enthusiastic.
“The XTA gear performed excellently, as always,”
stated Koehler, whose own SR company, Klondike Sound, has been a longtime
user of XTA equipment. “The DP226 units were particularly good
for tuning main, delay, and fill zones on the larger stages, and we
inserted the SIDD systems as needed for input parametrics and corrective
dynamics on various stages. Together, they really made a difference
in making this a great-sounding festival.”
The New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival took place
over two four-day weekends, and a total of 18 stages were used, many
simultaneously, which is why the sound field containment aspect of Koehler’s
task was particularly critical. “You want to keep the sound focused
and not have one stage interfere with another,” he explained.
“The XTA equipment was an integral part of achieving that.”
In addition, XTA personnel Tom Bensen and Guy Lewis were also on hand,
lending technical support as Koehler and his team continuously refined
the sound on each stage during midweek breaks and even between shows.
“There was every kind of sound system present here, from large
line arrays to ‘sound on a stick,’” Koehler commented.
“Wherever there was a challenge, there was usually a piece of
XTA equipment close by to take care of it. Great gear plus great support
equals a great festival!”
