XTA HEADS OUT ON SUMMER TOURS
WITH MUSIC’S BIGGEST ARTISTS
— Tom Petty takes to the road with XTA DP100, DP224 and DP226
crossovers,
with leading mixer Robert Scovill at the board —
FARMINGDALE, NY, August 15, 2002 — Music’s top
acts are on the road this summer, and many are taking XTA crossovers
along with them. Tom Petty’s world tour kicked off earlier this
summer, with renowned FOH mixer Robert Scovill at the helm of a massive
sound system put together by ProMix/Electrotec of Las Vegas. At its
core, the system has four XTA DP226 Speaker Management Systems, five
DP224 crossovers and three DP100 units, all working to create a fabulous-sounding
show.
“Engineers love the XTA DP Series crossovers because
they sound so transparent,” explains Martyn “Ferrit”
Rowe, Audio Concert Touring Supervisor for ProMix/Electrotec. “The
architecture and design of the systems make them the best-sounding ones
for most jobs, including the Tom Petty tour. From a technical point
of view, they are also terrific performers. For instance, their software
is better and more up to date. We don’t have to send out Windows®
95 and 98 operating systems with the sound system — XTA’s
AudioCore software works on the latest operating systems. It also offers
more functionality, including features like zone control. That kind
of advanced operational capability makes every aspect of using a sound
system easier, from set up to sound check to tear down. That makes for
a better atmosphere in which to put on a show.”
Meanwhile, Bob Dylan’s latest tour kicked off on
July 11 with the taping of an HBO special. Notable is the fact that
this year’s Dylan tour will be an all-digital affair, starting
with A-D conversion of microphone inputs at the stage, then routing
to a new Yamaha PMD-1 digital FOH console. To ensure the integrity of
the digital signal remains pristine, the sound system, also assembled
by ProMix/Electrotec, will utilize six XTA DP226 and three DP224 crossovers,
each fitted with the optional digital converter card offered for the
DP Series. “This tour will reap the benefits of having an all-digital
signal path by making sure the crossovers are also digital,” emphasizes
Rowe. “The sound will start digital at the stage and stay that
way to the speakers, right through the console, the signal processing
and the crossovers.”
ProMix/Eletrotec supplied the sound system for Dylan’s
previous tour as well, which also included six DP226 crossovers, used
in conjunction with the dV-DOSC™ main cabinets, as well as the
dV-DOSC sidefill and sub-bass cabinets and rear delay cabinet. “We
had amazing results from the DP units on that last tour,” Rowe
adds. “This time, with the XTA digital option in place, we expect
to take the entire sound system and the performance experience to the
next level.”
